EBT

Electron beam treatment (EBT) (Irritation) of diamonds uses high-energy particle accelerators to knock carbon atoms out of place. This creates vacancy defects that change how the gem absorbs light. It is widely used to permanently change a diamond's color, while the Diamonds sit on water-cooled plates to prevent heat cracks during the process and in all cases Annealing LPHT or HPHT required pending the outcome needed.

EBT 5 Mev & 10 Mev Treatments

The ultimate and rarest form of EBT treatments for CVD & HPHT Grown Diamonds today, EBT5 Mev & 10 Mev (5 & 10 mega-electron-volt) energy level, levels that treat the entire Diamond, with full penetration level into the Diamond.

Advantages:
  • 100% Stable Color.
  • Great with Large HPHT Grown Light Yellow to Intense Yellow Diamonds.
  • Can turn any Diamond with any traces of Nitrogen to Green, the shade of Green depends on the Nitrogen levels in the Diamond.
  • Can treat Diamonds as big as 100 Carats or Larger.
  • Can turn different Shades of Yellow CVD Grown Diamonds into different shades of Red, Pink, Purplish Pink, Purple or Orangey Pink.
  • Can turn most Low Color and Brownish Natural Diamonds to Yellow or Green and in some cases Red.
  • 100% Safe with exposure.
Disadvantages:
  • Can't achieve Blue Color.
  • Unstable Colors of treating Vivid to Dark Yellow HPHT Grown Diamonds.
  • Ideal for 1 Carat and larger Diamonds too strong for smaller Diamonds.
EBT 3 Mev Treatment

The more Common EBT treatments for CVD Grown Diamonds today, EBT3 Mev (3 mega-electron-volt) energy level, levels that treat deeper into the Diamond, with penetration level of 2.6 to 3 Millimeters into the Diamond, so a double-sided treatment can treat most stones under 10 Carats in the Industry.

Advantages:
  • Can turn any Diamond to a stable Blue Color, the shade of Blue depends on the Nitrogen levels in the Diamond.
  • Can turn different Shades of Yellow CVD & HPHT Grown Diamonds into different shades of Green Color and with LPHT or HPHT Treatment to Red, Pink, Purplish Pink or Orangy Pink.
  • Can turn most Low Color and Brownish Natural Diamonds to Yellow, Blue or Green and in some cases Red.
  • 100% Safe with exposure.
Disadvantages:
  • Hard to achieve Lighter Shades of Blue Color.
  • In some cases of lower Nitrogen Unstable color under different lighting.
  • Unstable colors in diamonds over 15 Carats.
  • Too strong for 0.03 Carats and smaller.
Surface EBT Treatments

The Most Common EBT treatments for Diamonds in the past 30 years are EBT1 MeV or 2 Mev (1 or 2 mega-electron-volt) energy level, levels that treat the surface of the Diamond only, 1 MeV penetration level of 0.9 Millimeters into the Surface of the Diamond and 2 MeV penetration level of 1.3 to 1.7 Millimeters into the Surface of the Diamond.

Advantages:
  • Can turn any Diamond to Blue Color, the shade of Blue depends on the Nitrogen levels in the Diamond.
  • Can turn Darker Shades of Yellow CVD & HPHT Grown Diamonds into different shades of Green Color and with LPHT Treatment to Pink, Purplish Pink or Orangey Pink.
  • Stable & more controlled treatment on 0.03 Carats and smaller.
  • With repeat treatments and experience you can achieve rare colors.
  • Can turn most Low Color and Brownish Natural Diamonds to Yellow, Blue or Green and in some cases Red.
  • 100% Safe with exposure.
Disadvantages:
  • With exposure to heat the color will fade or reverse into the original color, avoid exposure to a Jewelers torch and in some cases even heat from gold polishing brush.
  • Unstable color under different lighting.
  • Unstable color in larger diamonds over 5 Carats.
